The other day I was in the shower— where I do my best thinking— and a message landed on my heart:
I am not my hair. My hair helped me find who I am.
If you follow me on Instagram, you know I actively strive to share all the messages that come to my heart. So, when “I am not my hair. My hair helped me find who I am” hit me, I went to record it immediately. In this video, you will hear an open reflection about how I’ve grown over the last decade— as a woman and in spirituality— with 3 different sets of locs.
Please listen to this reflection with an open heart and mind and I highly encourage you to share your journey, lessons you’ve learned, and/or how you’ve grown since locking your hair in the comments!

Hi there
I am 19 months loced and it is truly a beautiful thing! My locs changed my life as well. I have “loc confidence.” One may ask what is “loc confidence.” Well, my definition is confidence about the beauty of my natural hair. My hair is healthy, long, and beautiful! I am proud to display my locs in any setting. Trust and believe there is no shame here!!
My locs were started by a professional loc technician. I researched a lot of material to learn about my personal loc journey. After my hair loced, I took control of my own journey. Please know no two journeys are the same.
I do not put a lot of products in my hair. There is no need.
I look forward to a continued healthy loc journey!!
Take care my fellow locers.
