I Found a Bug Inside My Locs!

As I was reflecting on all the ups and downs of the past year, I stumbled across one of the wildest events in 2023 that I forgot to share with you on the blog. The day I found a bug in my locs!

Imagine returning home after a nice walk on a beautiful sunny day and feeling something crawling on your scalp. Initially you think it’s nothing, but you bring your hand to your head to check it out just in case. To your surprise you discover a bump (that shouldn’t be there) and the more you feel around you encounter legs coming from this bump!

If you started cringing and itching  reading this, you know how I felt— I was seconds away from shaving my head bald! I screamed for my husband and he came rushing into the bedroom with my children. He removed the smushed beetle from under the base of my loc and I nearly passed out. He held a bug in his hands that had just come from within my locs 😳. The situation wouldn’t have been complete without my kid reminding me that it could have been worse— “imagine if it was a tick Mom!”

This was by far was the most terrifying thing that has happened to me over the past 10+ years with locs! Now let’s hear your stories — what has been the most terrifying / dramatic thing that happened to your locs?
