When you are sick or not feeling well the last thing that is on your mind is taking care of your hair. As a result, your hair struggles when you’re sick.
This was not something that I was explicitly aware of until it was mentioned to me in the Digital Txt Club recently. I received a message that said “my locs don’t like it when I am sick“. And immediately I affirmed the sentiment but also felt that it warranted a deeper conversation.
Many people do not know that their hair is apart of the last system within the body to receive nutrients. Which means that when you’re not feeling well, unless you are loading up on vitamins, your hair will suffer. Even with using the most natural products or having the cleanest diet, your hair is just not a priority to your body’s healing— it is a reflection of it.
With my latest video “Your hair does not like you sick!” I am asking you to reflect on the last time that you were not feeling well and what you remember about how your hair felt. Also, take a moment to take inventory on how you cared for your hair when you were sick or not feeling well— what do you notice?
I believe it is important to have an awareness of the level of care we give our hair when everything is all good AND how our hair care shifts when we are not feeling well. The goal is to cultivate healthy *consistent* hair care practices, but I know sometimes life be life’n.
